"The Blue Jays entered play Thursday with a streak of eight straight wins and extended it to nine with a 6-3 victory over the Houston Astros. Dustin McGowan and Kyle Drabek each pitched three solid innings
The Jays' overall mark of 11-2-1 ranks second only to the Tigers in win percentage in the Grapefruit League. But what does it all mean?
"The record is one thing, but it's not the most important," second-year Jays manager John Farrell said. "We're about getting our legs and our arms and our bodies in shape, along with our minds. I think we're on the right path from the physical and mental side of it."
Record has never been a team priority. Consider that in the seasons the Jays won their back-to-back World Series, they had horrible spring records. In '92, the Florida exhibition record stood at 13-18, while a year later, already defending champions, Toronto posted an 11-19 Grapefruit League mark under manager Cito Gaston. How much then does a good spring training record really matter?"
