With two exhibition games, and one week remaining before the season kicks off for real, the Trail Blazers are still searching for a starting small forward. But it's not for a lack of options. As became evident during Monday's 112-98 victory over Sacramento, the Blazers are posed with three choices, all of which are intriguing and enticing to coach Nate McMillan: 1. Start 19-year-old rookie Nicolas Batum, which will provide defense, but perhaps more important, will keep intact the second unit of Sergio Rodriguez, Rudy Fernandez, Travis Outlaw, Channing Frye and Joel Przybilla. 2. Start Rudy Fernandez at shooting guard and move Brandon Roy to small forward, which would provide scoring punch, but would make the Blazers small defensively. 3. Start Travis Outlaw at small forward, which would provide scoring punch, but take away one of the second unit's biggest weapons.
