Like I've told people.Tania Ganguli of the Florida Times Union confirms that the Jaguars will give No. 10 overall pick Blaine Gabbert a legitimate chance to start as a rookie.
According to Ganguli, Gabbert "won't sit for the sake of development," and "he will start ... if he beats out (David) Garrard." Garrard is owed nearly $8 million in 2011 salary. In the event Gabbert outplays him in preseason or camp -- and the odds aren't good because the rookie has no minicamps or OTAs -- Garrard will become a candidate for release assuming he refuses a pay cut.
This will be Gabberts team.
Garrard is usually AWFUL during preseason/training camp period, shakes the rust off right before Regular Season.
Gabbert will come in, impress the coaches, and take control of the locker room.
I hate when fans say "They drafted him to sit, like Rodgers, or Rivers did". Rodgers and Rivers both had great QBs ahead of them (Brees, Favre). Gabbert doesn't have that. Gabbert will have similar to what Sam Bradford had last year. Bradford wasn't named the starting QB until Week 3 of the preseason. He beat out AJ Feeley for the Job.
