In your opinion, which draft class has been the best since 2000?
My three in order are:
1. 2003 (Marc-Andre Fleury, Eric Staal, Nathan Horton, Tomas Vanek, Ryan Suter, Dion Phaneuf, Jeff Carter, Brent Seabrook, Zach Parise, Ryan Getzlaf, Brent Burns, Ryan Kesler, Mike Richards, Corey Perry, Loui Eriksson, Shea Weber, David Backes, Dustin Byfuglien, Tobias Enstrom, Eric Fehr, Milan Michalek)
The '03 draft could be the best draft ever, providing many key players for teams and a couple of superstars. Many of these players have also gone on to play in the Olympics.
2. 2006 (Nicklas Backstrom, Jonathan Toews, Phil Kessel, Claude Giroux, Erik Johnson, Jordan Staal, Michael Frolik, Kyle Okposo, Peter Mueller, Bryan Little, Seymon Varlamov, Michael Grabner, Chris Stewart, Patrik Berglund, Jamie McBain)
Not as deep as the '03 draft, the '06 draft has definitely provided some great talent and a couple of Olympic players. Despite this, there are still players that are still getting their feet wet in the NHL such as Michael Grabner and Jamie McBain who just entered their rookie seasons this year.
3. 2008 (Steven Stamkos, Drew Doughty, Luke Schenn, Tyler Myers, Jordan Eberle, Tyler Cuma, Kyle Beach, Cody Hodgson, Josh Bailey, Michael Del Zotto, Mikkel Boedker, Tyler Ennis, Jacob Markstrom, John Carlson, Erik Karlsson, Colton Teubert, Joe Colborne) - For prospects, posted the guys I felt will will have the biggest impact in their careers.
Only time will tell with this draft class as most players have yet to gain full NHL experience, however there is the potential to provide several all stars for the future. Despite this players like Doughty, Stamkos, Schenn and Myers all play important roles on their teams.
