Is Andy Dalton a distant relative of the Manning family?
He must be.
With Carson Palmer on his way out the Bengals are searching for a veteran to either train their new second round selection from TCU or perhaps hold down the fort until Dalton is ready to play.
And according to the Cincinnati Inquirer, the club might go after career backup and eight-year veteran, Jim Sorgi, the man who backed up Peyton Manning or seven seasons before joining the Giants to backup Eli Manning.
The move isn't a bad decision for Cincy. They need a veteran to help with Dalton's development, and behind the two Mannings, Sorgi must have learned a lot. But Dalton might not be ready on Day One and wouldn't it be better for them to add a quarterback whose started at least one game and thrown more than 66 passes in the last six seasons?
Kerry Collins is available and so is Matt Hasselbeck. They may be far older with much more wear and tear, but when you go out and select A.J. Green fourth overall, adding a reliable passer to get him the ball makes more sense.

I would be fine with this. Sorgi has been behind Manning for years, I'm sure he has learned a lot of things over the years that would be beneficial to Andy Dalton.

The most intriguing name might be Sorgi. He hasn't started a game in seven seasons but has played behind Peyton Manning and Eli Manning with the Colts and Giants respectively. If anyone is waiting for his chance in case something happens, much less getting a chance to compete for a starting spot, it could be Sorgi.
