The Bears ended the eight-year tenure of Alex Brown in Chicago on Thursday when the released the defensive end.
Brown, who's played with the Bears since being drafted in 2002, had indicated his time in Chicago would end on Wednesday. He released a message on Twitter saying he was "extremely grateful for my time as a Chicago Bear and I wish the Bears the best."
USA TODAY's Mike Dodd noted from Chicago that Mark Anderson will be the presumptive starter in place of Brown, along the same line with newly-signed DE Julius Peppers.
The New York Giants added former Seattle safety Deon Grant to their defensive secondary Thursday.
It's the second key moves for the Giants at safety in the past month. On March 5, the Giants added Antrel Rolle, who previously played for the Arizona Cardinals. Kenny Phillips, who missed the final 14 games with a knee injury last season, is also scheduled to return.
Grant, 31, has started 144 straight games -- the fifth-longest streak in the NFL among active players.
Grant replaced C.C. Brown on the Giants' roster. The team rescinded their tender to Brown to make room for Grant.
Grant had three interceptions and 78 tackles last season for the Seahawks.
