Trail Blazers rookie Jerryd Bayless capped off an impressive week Sunday night by being awarded the T-Mobile NBA Summer League Top Rookie trophy. Bayless, who was recently added to the USA Basketball Select Team, lead the Summer League in scoring, averaging 29.8 points per game on 49% shooting from the field, 42% from three and 82% from the free throw line.

Complimenting his prolific scoring, Bayless averaged 4.8 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.2 steals while leading the Blazers to a 2-2 record in Las Vegas. Bayless sat out the final game of the Summer League, a 78-63 Portland victory against the New Orleans Hornets, due to practicing with the USA Team earlier in the day.

I told all of my friends that Bayless > everyone except Beasley and Mayo... And all I heard was how he sucks, and he won't do well in the NBA at PG, and is too small to score as a SG.

Summer league doesn't mean much, but it does show that there is talent there.

EXCELLENT move by the Blazers getting him.
