Knicks head coach Mike Woodson envisioned Andrea Bargnani as a member of his starting lineup, someone who would cause matchup problems for his opponents that might struggle with how to defend the seven-footer who takes plenty of outside shots.

Its been a slow process for Bargnani to adjust to both is new surroundings in New York as well as his new teammates. Hes struggled during the preseason, to the point where Woodson might not be able to trust him to play starters minutes just yet.

Woodson might not use regular season games to see if Bargnani is ready for that role, and may start Metta World Peace instead.

To start, you should have to play starter defense. Bargs definitely doesn't do that.

Don't they have virtually the same roster as last season?

37-39 wins, 43-45 losses. Calling it now.

no way. There is now way in the world Knicks will finish with a losing record. At least they can win 42-44, their roster isn't that bad and Artest will bring them something more, more energy, more toughness. And when they light it up from downtown it can be still scary - Melo, Earl the Third, Bargsy.. you know Carmelo will have many 30+ games and the supporting cast isn't that bad

Amazing, who would have thought the defensive minded coach would start a defensive player over Bargnani?

You guys give this team no credit, man. They have a deeper bench now, and a C that can actually score off the bench which they didn't have at all last year. They added Metta, we'll see how Hardaway Jr does, and they added Udrih. JR and STAT can still score real well off the bench too. You guys are acting like they lost a major player or something. Copeland was nothing special, Novak was inconsistent and couldn't create his own shot, and Kidd was terrible down the stretch. Everyone criticized them for being too old last year, so now without Kidd and Camby you'd think there would actually be some positive reaction.

My only real issues with this team are Chris Smith, and then Bargnani's contract.

In no way is this a team that will contend for a title, but I feel like some of you guys take it too far and just assume that since they won't contend for a 2nd seed they should just throw in the towel, trade everyone or else they'll barely scrape .500. It's actually laughable. And hey, if they suck this year I'll bite the bullet and admit I was wrong -- and if they get a 4th seed I expect you guys to do the same.

I don't think they will be below .500, but they are significantly below the 4 other teams in the East. Knicks will challenge the Pistons for the 5/6 seed, and then 2 scrub teams (ie Washington, Cleveland, Boston if they get super lucky) will get the final 2

so considering they got rid of Novak, Camby, and Copeland and added Udrih, Hardaway Jr, Aldrich and World Peace I'm a bit curious how they didn't get better.

And it's hard to believe "just about" every team in the East got better except the Knicks.

i have a hard time believe everyone in the East got better EXCEPT the Knicks, the one team that everyone on this board hates.

And nobody can convince me the Knicks bench this year isn't an improvement over last year's. Though I don't doubt Nola will do his best to prove me wrong, haha.

W/e man, haters gonna hate. Knicks gonna slate.
