<_< If he makes it just -_- He ruined the Browns franchise that was looking great, we had a great chance at a title until he moved us to Baltimore. I doubt he would even show up in Canton to accept it if he makes it, he'd get showered with obscenities and possibly other things.CANTON Art Modell made the cut Tuesday.
The former Browns and Ravens owner is among 25 semifinalists being considered for the Pro Football Hall of Fame's Class of 2009. The semifinalists were chosen by the Hall's Board of Selectors from a list of 133 preliminary nominees.
Modell owned the Browns from 1961-95 before he moved the team to Baltimore. He did not make the semifinal cut last year.
The semifinalists include four first-year eligible players — defensive tackle John Randle, tight end Shannon Sharpe, defensive end Bruce Smith and defensive back Rod Woodson. Running back Roger Craig was named a semifinalist for the first time since he became eligible in 1999.
This year's list also includes Buffalo Bills owner Ralph Wilson and former NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue. Tagliabue was eliminated in the first round of cuts on selection day for the Class of 2008.
The list of 25 semifinalists will be reduced by ballot to 15 modern-era candidates in early January. Those 15 will join Bob Hayes and Claude Humphrey, the recommended candidates of the Hall of Fame's Seniors Committee.
The Hall of Fame's Class of 2009 will be selected and announced in Tampa, Fla., on Saturday, Jan. 31, the day before Super Bowl XLII. Between four and seven new members will be chosen.
No more than five modern-era nominees can be elected. A class of seven can only be named if both senior nominees are elected.
