BEREA, Ohio (AP)—Derek Anderson will replace Brady Quinn and start at quarterback for the Cleveland Browns on Sunday against Cincinnati.

Coach Eric Mangini has decided to go with Anderson, a Pro Bowler in 2007, over Quinn, a former first-round draft pick who opened the season as Cleveland’s starter, but was benched at halftime last Sunday in Baltimore.

Mangini believes the Browns have a better chance to move the ball with Anderson.

“I’m excited about the opportunity,” Anderson said. “We’re all competitors, we all want to play. I’m ready to go.”

Mangini spent the entire training camp deciding on a quarterback before picking Quinn over Anderson. But after Quinn threw an interception on the Browns’ first possession Sunday, Mangini benched him after just 10 quarters this season and inserted Anderson.

Anderson had more success moving Cleveland’s offense, but threw three picks in the 34-3 loss to the Ravens.

“I felt like I went out there and did what I can do,” Anderson said.

The Browns have been outscored 95-29 this season, and have scored only one touchdown in their past nine games dating to last season.

Mangini hopes Anderson can bring a spark, but he knows Quinn hasn’t gotten much help.

“I’m not saying it’s all Brady,” said Mangini. “Derek did some things that were positive and that’s what it’s based on.”
I think Derek is the better passer and he shouldve started the season with him. Derek has a very nice deep ball that Brady hasnt been able to develop.

He should be able to get us at least one win this year, would have gotten 0 with Quinn.

Last year in his first start, he got 5 TDs vs the Bengals.. I'll hope for the best.

Awe 0-16 is a hell of a lot of fun though :p

Good move by the Browns though, Quinn is a dud.

He should have been the starter from day 1 imo. He's a lot better than Quinn, we've seen he can be good but he needs to make smarter decisions and get his confidence back a bit.

Our defense sucked then.... I'm surprised we even scored 12 & 14 against the Browns last year with Fitzpatrick as QB, our offense was horrible.. Injuries didn't help much either... 45-50, LOL - We had a great defense then, allowing 50 points to the browns offense is/was horrendous.
