The Mavericks will not use their amnesty clause on Brendan Haywood, according to a source.

Haywood is owed $45.3 million over five years.

Dallas may need Haywood to resume a bigger role with the club if Tyson Chandler departs in free agency.

seems like no team really wants to use it right now.

How the fuck are the Mavs not going to use it on him lol.
But Chandler is leaving, so I guess it makes sense.

Teams may be reluctant to use it because it might make FA not want to sign with them, or at least it's a factor.

you only can use it on players that were on your roster as of today i thought. why would free agents care about that?

It will discourage them from signing because they might be next...

next when? you can only use it once during this cba. so when this cba expires and they renew and IF the amnesty is still there, then they can be scared? doubt it will scare them off.

According to a draft of the rule, a team can use the provision in any off-season, subject to two restrictions: the player must have been signed before July 1, 2011, and must be on the team’s current roster.

Yanks, only players on their teams rosters before the lockout could be waived

so free agents cant be waived, because they wouldnt be on that team before the Lockout

Although im not sure if FAs are waive-eligible if they re-sign. Like if Chandler re-signs in Dallas, if he is able to be waived... im not sure

if they werent on the roster whether they resign or not, they were free agents. so tyson chandler resigning wouldnt be able to be waived.

Yeah I think teams just don't want to do it because 1) They still have to pay them 2) It might not bring them under the cap anyways 3) it might make them too far under the cap

I can see a lot more being used mid-season or late season when free agency is done with.
