Amare Stoudemire is expected to miss the rest of the regular season after undergoing surgery Friday morning to repair a partially detached retina in his right eye, according to Paul Coro of the Arizona Republic.

This is the same eye that Boris Diaw poked in training camp and Stoudemire is expected to miss eight weeks. The Suns' regular season ends eight weeks from today. This is tough to swallow, especially with no warning, but Shaquille O'Neal obviously remains an excellent fantasy play, while Louis Amundson and Matt Barnes should both see a big bump in playing time going forward.

Well I guess we know why they didn't trade him now!
that makes no sense..

read the article.. the suns knew nothing bout his surgery this morning and they had no idea he was having it.. if they knew that , they would have traded him for a player that is going to be around all year.

IF they knew something about it, and other teams didnt.. why in the hell wouldnt they trade him instead of denyin offers thinking he was going to play the rest of the season.. that makes no sense.. dont trade a player who wont play again this year instead of trading him for 1 big name and some draft picks.

He probably would have failed the physical, they would have checked his eye. It just seems fishy, he was GOING to be traded a few weeks ago, they just HAD to get rid of him it seemed, then all the sudden, they changed their minds, and then after the deadline, suddenly he is going to be out for the rest of the season.

but a team with no playoff hopes would glady take amare this year.. let him get surgery and have him back for a full year..

No, cause he wouldn't got poked in the eye by Boris Diaw again at the same exact time. To re-aggravate the injury.

That is unfortunate for Amare, and somewhat ironic at the same time.

1. I saw the replay, tough hit to the eye.
2. The Suns knew about the injury but not the surgery. They didnt expect the surgery to occur so quickly, because they didnt know the severity of it.
3. He wouldnt have passed the physical when he walked into the wall the first day after acquiring him, and would have sent him back due to physical issues.
4. I only say that because his vision may never be the same again, but it might be. Who knows, it's going to be a while until we know how its healing and whether or not his vision improves to the level it was previously.

This is bad for Phoenix, hopefully Barnes and Amundson can play the position to perfection...
