Amid widespread speculation about Amare Stoudemire's return from a back injury, a source close to the New York Knicks veteran power forward said Stoudemire may return later this week.

Stoudemire will not play on Tuesday against Boston and is unlikely to play on Wednesday in New Jersey. But there is a possibility that he returns to the team later this weekend, either Friday night against Cleveland or Sunday against Atlanta, according to the source.

hope they play him off the bench. Melo is doing great at the 4, spacing is better, and when Tyson and Melo take a rest we have absolutely no inside presence on offense off the bench.

No way Amare's coming off the bench, Woody already said as soon as he comes back he's taking a big role.

Him and Melo just need to learn to co-exist, make the game easier for eachother..

I dont know how Melo and Amare can co-exist. Ever since Melo has been playing alone, his numbers have increased significantly. They just dont have good team chemistry and practically step on each others feet every time they are on the court together.

they have no inside presence off the bench. You have Harrelson who only takes 3s and never sits in the post on offense, and Jeffries is all defense.

Amar'e also was much better last year playing as a Center. Play him off the bench at C with Jeffries at the 4, Novak at SF, Smith and Douglas at G. Play Stoudemire without Chandler under C and you can create more Pick & Roll opportunities with him also.

I understand they have to learn to co-exist and I think they will figure it out in the off-season and training camp, but right now they gotta roll with the starting lineup that is working. Amar'e is better in the half-court offense they run now, rather than the run n gun D'Antoni ran. But right now, with him just coming off a back injury, i'd rather see him play off the bench.

And it's tough to judge that Melo is better without Amar'e since Amar'e got hurt not long after Woodson took over as the head coach.

I hear what your saying FPS and I agree for the most part when you say we lack a big on the bench but you don't make a 20+mil man the 6th man on a squad he ressurected plus Melo has been getting man handled in the post on defense.

Amare did so well because last year he was the main option for he could pick the spots he wanted to get the ball that's why he was so good, with Melo he's going to have to utilize the pick and roll WITH Melo they could be dangerous together, he's going to have to keep moving on offense and basically they should be on opposite sides when on the offensive end, I'm excited to get him back, Amare hasn't smiled all year and lately e's been cheesin like a mothafucker, he's ready to get back to that dominant Amare
