ESPN.com - Alan Faneca, a nine-time Pro Bowl guard, announced his retirement on Tuesday.

Faneca, 34, made the decision to retire only recently, one of his agents, Rick Smith, told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

"Playing in the NFL has been a childhood dream come true," Faneca said in a statement. "Thirteen years later I have decided that it is time to move on.

"From the dog days of training camp to winning a Super Bowl the memories are endless. The greatest memory that I will leave the game with is all of the lifelong friendships I have made," he said

He was a damn good one in his time for the Steelers. He kind of flaked out from that franchise, and while he was good, he kind of hit the wall and was never playing at that kind of elite status.

Wish him a good retirement.

Really liked him with the Jets and was disappointed when we let him go. Dude was such an animal back in the day.
