Alain Vigneault Officially Named NYR Head Coach; Live Press Conference on NHL.com

Alain Vigneault will be the new head coach of the New York Rangers, a source confirmed to ESPNNewYork.com.

Though the details are still being finalized as of Saturday afternoon -- Vigneault is technically still under contract with the Vancouver Canucks -- the hiring is imminent, the source said.

The Rangers declined to comment via a team spokesperson.

NEW YORK -- The New York Rangers on Friday announced Alain Vigneault as the team's new coach during a press conference at Radio City Music Hall.
"Alain Vigneault has had success throughout his career and his coaching style is a perfect fit for the Rangers," Rangers general manager Glen Sather said. "We feel very fortunate to have him leading this team as we continue to pursue our ultimate goal of winnin the Stanley Cup."
Vigneault replaces John Tortorella, who was fired following the Rangers' loss to the Boston Bruinsin the Eastern Conference Semifinals.

Yeah. Reports are that the official announcing of Torts is on Tuesday (tomorrow).

torts is gonna be a hit or miss type of guy here. we'll see how he handles a hockey crazed media in van city. i hope he doesn't run the core players outta the city either.

one thing that av does really well is handle the media. he likes to crack jokes with the media here and there. i think he's a pretty good fit in ny, but he's not the hard ass that torts is, which is why the canucks have fallen short for the past 4 years.
