Was listening to WFAN New York this morning around 11ish and they brought up the idea - when talking about S Kenny Phillips' injury that put him on IR - whether or not the NFL should implement some, in the future, some sort of Disabled List, rather than an IR that would put a player out for the entire season.

Unfortunately I had to go to class so didn't get the chance to hang around for their opinions, but was just curious what you guys thought of it. Do you think it would work? How would it work?

They dont really need a dl because all the teams say is that he will be out for a certain amount of time and thats what they go by. So no need of DL in NFL.

ya but then in some cases your guys are still on your roster and your left with no depth at some points, which is one reason why the idea would be brought up.

They already have something like a disabled list... its called the PUP (Physically Unable to Perform) list.

wiki:
Physically Unable to Perform is the term for a rule in the National Football League which allows teams to designate players as "Physically Unable to Perform" or "PUP". Once they are designated as such, they are prohibited from practicing with the team. They can, however, rehabilitate and participate in team meetings. If a player begins training camp on the PUP list, they can be moved to the active roster at any time, even after one practice. A player is not allowed to be placed on the PUP list if they start training camp on the active roster.
A player who begins the regular season on the PUP list must sit out his team's first six games. After that point, a team has three weeks to start having the player practice; once the player begins practicing, the team has another three weeks to put the player on the active roster. If the player is not activated by that time, or if he does not begin practicing within that three week window, he must remain on the PUP list for the remainder of the season.

ya but according to what that says, the PUP seems to be, and from what I know, an injury list during training camp. Like it says there, if the player is on the active roster at beginning of training camp they cant be placed on PUP list.
