In a wild year, yet another head coach has been fired midseason.

FOX Sports has learned that the San Franciseo 49ers have fired Mike Nolan. Nolan was informed by team brass late Monday afternoon.

It is assumed that current defensive coordinator Mike Singletary will assume Nolan's coaching duties. There were reports earlier today that Nolan would be fired after the team's next game Sunday against Seattle, but ownership instead decided not to wait.

BREAKING NEWS!!

ESPN's Chris Mortenson reports that 49ers Head Coach Mike Nolan may be fired tonight, rather than previous reports from Michael Smith stating next week following their Week 8 game.

Its official.

Mike Nolan out...Mike Singletary will be taking over the head coaching role.

Pretty sh*tty...but I would take Nolan in Minnesota, in a heartbeat. Ownership is the problem in SF, not the head coach or players.

When you have a new F'n Offensive Coordinator every season...it's no wonder theres no consistency coming from the Offense.

I'm sorry...but I wouldn't place any blame on Alex Smith for the Niners woes. Young guy who has played under a diff O-Coordinator in each of his NFL season....and who the hell has he ever had to throw to?

Thank God Frank Gore is such a tank with the ball...or this team has won even less games under Mike Nolan.

dont forget that they got JT O'Sullivan at the helm with possibly the worst offensive line i've ever seen.

Sad part is that they have one of the better NFL Defenses this season.

Hence why I've always told people that defense doesnt win you championships. You need an all around team with a lot of depth. They dont have that, especially on offense.

Some people understand...

I actually liked Mike Nolan alot. Its not him like AE stated earlier, its the ownership. They need to do a better job of bringing in guys that can win and not letting the coach take all the blame. The only time I was even angry at Nolan was when he didn't believe Smith was injured last year. He's a good coach in a bad...horrible system. I'm gonna miss that suit on the sidelines at home. I hope he finds work somewhere in the NFL or possibly in management of another team. I hope Singletary proves to be a better coach even more though...

I still can't believe they passed up Mike Martz and went straight to Singletary for the interim promotion.

I know Singletary knows what it takes to be a linebacker, but I never imagined him making a good head coach.

I honestly feel bad for Singletary every offseason b/c I feel that the only reason he gets so many interviews for vacancies is due to the NFL's rule that an african-american must be interviewed prior to a team hiring anybody to be their new head coach.
