We will be starting our 3rd annual SI player rankings. The first year we did this it sparked great debate, I'm hoping to get back to that this year. Unfortunately last year I did not finish the rankings for whatever reason, but this year we need to all make it a goal to finish them. We'll be going 10 deep this year.

Remember these two things, please vote on the polls and vote for the best player, don't be a homer. I will leave the polls open at my own discretion. Most will be open 24 hours, but if there is one where it's a clear runaway then there is no point in delaying the voting.

Remember, this is based on who is currently the best player, not who has the potential to be the best.

I wouldn't say easily considering the fact that he plays less defense than James Harden.

Not at all Sal, whether you want to believe or not defense matters. Probably more than offense.

And with that said, he's also not nearly the offensive player he once was.

Which kind of sucks for me because I sorta gave him a lifetime vote. I count three or four guys I could put up a argument that I would rather.

I don't really care what arguments you could make. Deron is a better player than anyone left on the board.

Only one with a possible case is Lillard.

Just want to say, someone is in the wrong for not having Jeff Teague on this list. If we're listing Lillard, Jrue, Kemba, Rubio, BJ, it just doesn't seem right to leave Teague off smh

You either live in the past or don't know basketball then.

And Lillard is the only one? Lol you get more ridiculous by the post.

Would anyone be interested in like a "future" player rankings. Who would you want in say 5 years?

Averaged 19 and 8 on a playoff team, and what was considered a down year. Let me hear your stupid ass sabermeterics as to why he isn't the best remaining player on this list.

Considering I voted for him as well? My complaint is that you say he is "easily" the best remaining player on this list, which couldn't be any further from the truth. Though I wouldn't expect much else from a fan boy, casual fan, whatever you are.

What did I say that wasn't true? You definitely aren't more than a casual fan.

I guess I'm a idiot then. But you haven't been helping me think otherwise, that's for sure.

But I guess I should explain myself a little.

Like I said, my main complaint is that he is "easily" the best player left on the list. I would say that you can't just ignore 50% of the game. Which in this case, you seem to be doing. There is no way you can objectively look at the defensive side of the game and then still say "Deron Williams is easily the best player left on this list." It just is not possible. Which is where I get the casual fan reference from. That is what a casual fan would do. "He averaged 19 points and 8 assists a game." Congrats? I guess? He probably gave up 19 points and 8 assists a game as well. That's where I'm coming from. What good is the raw stat of 19 and 8 if you're giving up the same? If not more? If you objectively look at it, and actually do some research, you could probably come to the conclusion that Deron is one of the bottom three worst defenders of the 10 guys still on this list.

Now let me tell you where I'm coming from. Lets take cheatos vote of Mike Conley for example. If Deron rates out on the high side offensively, lets say a eight out of ten. Where would that put Conley? A six out of ten I guess? Deron is an above average offensive player, while Conley is probably about average. But defensively, which again you can't just ignore, is where Conley makes a come back. He is one of the best defenders in the league, especially at the point of attack. Plus he can turn you over just as good as anyone in the league. If a guy like Lebron is a 10 defensively, I'd have to say Conley is a 9, the only thing keeping him from being a 10 is the fact that he can't guard multiple positions. Now if Conley is a 9, what is Deron. I'd personally give him about a 5. Below average defender, but his size and strength does help him in some areas (getting around screens for example).

So Conley may not be the offensive player Deron is, but Deron isn't half of the defensive player Conley is either. So if you actually look at 100% of the game, and not just 50% of it, in what way is Deron "easily" the best player left on this list? I don't even need to pull up advanced stats to see that.

If anything I need to change my vote because I now feel I was wrong.
