    World Baseball Classic

USA is as far in this classic as they've ever been.  They play Team Japan next -- a very tough draw, but what do you expect in the semi-finals?

USA walks off Columbia.  Well-pitched on both sides.  Adam Jones hit a soft single to left-center to drive in Ian Kinsler in the bottom of the 10th.

Lawrie started his career very nicely, but could not make the adjustments once pitchers figured out the holes in his swing.  Defensively, he is adequate.  Offensively, he looks lost at times.  He might benefit from another set of eyes and another voice to get his bat going again.

    World Baseball Classic

Last night, the USA team lost to the Twins 3-2. Buxton made a really nice catch on a ball that McCutcheon hit to straightaway center. McCutcheon tipped his cap and Buxton returned the gesture.

I watched a bit of the Cuba/China game last night after work.  The Cubans looked sloppy in the field, but they are fast and can hit.

I saw this game on MLB Network.  The announcers said the kid was known for his glove, but his bare hands are pretty good, too.

Red Sox Fear Tommy John for David Price

Publicly stating that Price is going to visit Dr. Andrews is not a good sign.  Price has never had any elbow problems in the past and has always had arm stiffness early in the spring.  This may be a bit different, however. We can hope for the best.

What active players do you think have a good chance for Cooperstown?

Mauer's ship has sailed, unless he gets hit bat back.  As a catcher, he was great.  As a 1B, not so much.  He has to do better than 12 homers with .265 and 70 RBI. Also, Trout has to continue with similar stats for another 5+ years to be a lock.  He is a wonderful talent and should be HOF...

    Alex Reyes -- Tommy John

Bad news for the Cardinals.  He'll be out at least 12 months, likely longer.   While the Cardinals can handle his replacement internally, they will certainly miss his electric stuff.

Detroit Tigers and Red Wings owner, Mike Illitch has passed away

Great owner.  Just wrote checks and asked the management to put a winning team on the field or ice.  Huge loss for the sports and city of Detroit.

Twins at 80-82?  Not sure.  I think the Twins will be better than last season, but not 21 games.  I'm thinking more along the lines of 73 wins.

Yordano Ventura and Andy Marte Pass Away

This is horrible news.  Both were young men with their lives ahead of them.  Baseball aside, these were men with families and friends who loved them.  Losses like these are the worst losses a family can have. Rest in peace, Yordano and Andy.  Condolences to family and friends.

    Orioles Sign Mark Trumbo

Wow.  Hot Stove on MLB Network was discussing Chris Davis vs. Manny Machado in a couple of years and the conclusion was that with the Davis contract on board, the Orioles won't be able to afford Machado's asking price when he comes up in a few years.   This said, Trumbo going back at a...

Agreed.  Both are very deserving and neither has any suspicions surrounding them.  Vlad and Hoffman should make it next year, as well.

    Hall of Fame Votes

One of the unfortunate stories from the voters is that Jorge Posada only got 3.8% of the votes.  He needed 5% to stay on the ballot, so he won't be elected by the writers.

Raines, Bagwell and Pudge are in.  Hoffman and Vlad just missed.
