Because he was gave a list of AVAILABLE numbers. I believe he told Michael Irvin he wants to wear 88 at the next level. Jags have never been the type of team to take a # away from a player and to give it to somebody else, he'll probably have to earn a number. So I expect him to choose a different number after the preseason. Much like Hakeem Nicks did. He went from 18 to 88.

I remember reading a story some time ago: Randy Moss claimed he wanted to wear #18, his high school number, but once cuts were made and jersey numbers in the 80's opened up, Dennis Green made him switch

I'm sure it will grow on you. I thought Plaxico wearing 17 after leaving Pittsburgh was weird but I got used to it. But again, WR's wearing #'s in the teens isn't right at all.

Yes, they're winning the "Oh, I know that players name" Trophy.
They've gotten more physical and deeper on both lines, upgraded at corner, added competition at strong safety, and instantly upgraded at receiver. It has nothing to do with names.
