Peyton Manning's 14-year career as a member of the Indianapolis Colts is coming to an end.

Sources close to the team told ESPN's Chris Mortensen that the announcement will come at a press conference in Indianapolis on Wednesday.

The decision to pass on the $28 million bonus owed Manning and not to pick up the four remaining years on his contract means Manning will become a free agent, and sources say that he intends to continue to play.

The Colts decided not to pick up Manning's option because of concerns they had over his readiness to play in the NFL again.

The four-time league MVP missed the entire 2011 season after having his third neck surgery in 19 months, a fusion of two vertebrae. His doctors have medically cleared him to resume his career.

Manning has broken all of Indianapolis' career records for quarterbacks and had never missed a start before last season. He's taken the Colts to the playoffs 11 times, captured seven AFC South titles in eight years, won two AFC championships, one Super Bowl title and a Super Bowl MVP Award.

Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.

It's weird. I've felt this was inevitable for over a month, but when I saw it on ESPN just now my jaw dropped. Just so hard to believe this is how it ends between the two sides.

Regardless, let the offseason fun begin.

Despite the speculation I'm still shocked. I'm hoping he goes to the Dolphins.

If he was retiring he would have done it already. He wouldn't be rehabbing and he would have retired before getting released so he could retire a Colt.

Miami seems like the most likely choice.

This is gonna be like the sim league. People just throw money his way and it goes back and forth.

Not really, but I see him going with whatever team will let him take charge/has the best O-line.

I want him to go to Seattle personally.

I could see Elway using all our cap space on him

IDK how any of you are surprised. It's been on a downward spiral for the last month or two

Its funny they are saying its not because of money. They just want to rebuild.

I'm pretty sure that 23 million came in to play in this decision.

DJT, this wont be like the sim league, at all

If it were, he'd be a Redskin. they can offer the most money.

My bets will be with Miami. They have a solid OL, a good defense, and if Wayne and Garçon join him in South Beach, they have a great 4 man receiving core in Marshall, Wayne, Bess, and Garçon. Thats a playoff team there, easily
