Jahvid Best suffers another concussion

The post-game kerfuffle between Jim Harbaugh and Jim Schwartz distracted everyone from the implications of Detroit’s first loss of the year.

The Lions now trail in the NFC North by a game and have a conference loss in the standings. More importantly, their dormant running game suffered another blow.

The team confirmed after the game that Jahvid Best suffered a concussion in the loss. Best also suffered a concussion in the preseason, and had a nasty one in college that forced him to miss a number of games.

The repeated nature of Best’s concussions should have the Lions proceeding cautiously. It would surprise us if Best played this week against the Falcons.

The Lions are 25th in rushing yards on the year. Maurice Morris is next up on the depth chart. The team also has Keiland Williams and Jerome Harrison on the roster.

We drafted Mikel Leshoure this draft him and best were suppose to split carries. Mikel was having a phenomal training camp if I remember correctly. But then he tore his achilles tendon. But now its Best, Maurice Morris, Keiland Williams and Jerome Harrison....lol

They aren't good either, Lions are really screwed at the RB position. They better hurry up and make some kind of last minute trade.

I have a feeling the running game is what is going to hold the Lions back this year from doing huge things, especially come playoff time in the bad conditions when you need a strong running game.

ESPN.com - As Eagles doctors were giving newly acquired running back Jerome Harrison his physical, they discovered a brain tumor that nullified a trade with the Lions, according to two league sources.

The trade might have actually saved Harrison's life, the sources said. Without the deal being made, Harrison would not have undergone a physical. The tumor is now being treated, according to sources.

Harrison could not be reached for comment.

The Eagles would have sent Ronnie Brown to the Lions in exchange for Harrison and an undisclosed pick in the 2013 NFL draft.

Harrison is not expected to play again this season, but his long-term prognosis both for life and his football career appear to be good, sources said.
