Emery Signs with the Anaheim Ducks

The Anaheim Ducks have signed goaltender Ray Emery to a one-year, two-way contract worth $500,000 at the NHL level and $105,000 at the AHL level.

The former Ottawa Senators and Philadelphia Flyers netminder will be placed on waivers today at Noon et.

The two-way deal will allow Emery to take longer then the standard two-week conditioning AHL stint without having to go through waivers to be recalled, however due to Emery's age and NHL experience, he would need to clear waivers first before the Ducks could send him to Syracuse of the AHL. Should a team claim him today, he would have to remain on that team's NHL roster for the remainder of the season.

The 27-year-old Emery played 29 games with the Flyers last season, however he missed the final 27 games of the regular season and all 23 of the Flyers playoff games while dealing with a groin injury. He also underwent hip surgery this past off-season that grafted bone from his lower-leg to the ball in his hip joint.

In 163 career games split between the Senators and Flyers, the Cayuga, Ontario native has a record of 87-51-15 with a 2.70 goals against average and a .907 save percentage.

Quality signing, gives Anaheim a somewhat reliable back up to Hiller. If he can return to his 2006-2007 form (which he probably won't) this can be a great signing.

...And? We can bitch all we want but rules are rules. And the rules state we had a chance at claiming this guy. Even if he isn't in top form right now, it would still be nice to have an insurance goalie behind Howard and McDonald until Ozzy comes back, if he does this season.

If any other team needing a goalie that was in the playoff race claimed Nabby, I wouldn't have bitched. But come on Baggs, it was the Islanders. One of, if not the worst team in the league right now with no shot at the playoffs... Instead of grabbing Nabokov why didn't they just get Emery, or someone else? They even knew he didn't want to play there.

You just said if it improves and its something you need, which is exactly why the Islanders did it. Yeah, they're out of the playoffs and I'd be pissed if it was the Bruins trying to sign Nabakov. But, they had a use for him and had every right to claim him. Just like you guys would have had any right to claim Emery.

Yeah, but there are plenty of other goalies out there that they could have signed and could have talked to before signing them. Instead of signing Nabokov who clearly didn't want to play for them and had no contact with them before they claimed him. We could keep going back and forth on this and it will never end haha.
