Post any thing related to the Detroit Lions such as free agency pick ups, trades, and rumors.

Avril will be a restricted free agent, though he said Monday he hopes to begin working on a new deal this week, and outside linebacker Julian Peterson is expected to be released in February after being de-activated for the final regular-season game. Peterson is due $8 million next year.

Several key backups have expiring contracts, too, including defensive end Turk McBride, linebacker Bobby Carpenter and tackle Corey Hilliard, but by and large the Lions have insulated themselves from the possibility of a protracted lockout, which could delay the start of free agency in March and even linger into the season.

The Lions will have continuity in their coaching staff -- Schwartz said he expects all of his assistants to return.

Every team will have an Offseason thread here at some point, so nothing will be going anywhere but staying put.

Think the Lions will be active in free agency?

I think they will. Probably not as active as last season but I think they will do a good job in free agency.

Who might they be interested in that's going to be a free agent that you could see the Lions picking up?

Not really sure yet but we need these positions the most: linebacker, defensive back, No. 3 receiver and running back.

Mayhew said he has a lot of work to do, which is good news. Should be a busy off-season for us.

I think this is a bit of a pipe dream but when I saw Nnamdi is going to be a free agent. I instantly thought Detroit.

Hate to ruin it for Lions fans, but Nnamdi nor Champ is going to The D.
Being considered the leader of the defensive backs group isn't something to pull them to Detroit.. Just saying.

Get that one out of your dreams now.

I'll believe otherwise until they sign the contract with another team.

Listen, If you were a older player (Champ Bailey - 32, Nnamdi Asomugha - 29 About to be 30) would you seriously go to Detroit? I know you think signing either one of these players will make them a playoff team, but lets be honest, it won't.

Matt Stafford has yet to remain healthy, and even though alot of people see Detroit as a "breakout" team next year, I still see them only winning maybe 8 games with their schedule.

Home Opponents:
Chicago Bears, Green Bay Packers, Minnesota Vikings, Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers, San Francisco 49ers, Kansas City Chiefs and San Diego Chargers
Away Opponents:
Chicago Bears, Green Bay Packers, Minnesota Vikings, New Orleans Saints, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Dallas Cowboys, Denver Broncos and Oakland Raiders
You honestly mean to tell me that signing Champ Bailey or Nnamdi (not that either would even go to detroit over somebody like San Diego, or Philly which are both considered to be in the running for him along with Baltimore) would make yall into a playoff team? If you seriously think that, then I think you need to take a step back and relook at the situation. It isn't happening.

I think they would sign here if we give them money. We are going to be willing to spend money for a great CB. And you act like this would be the only move we make lol. We are going to solidify the LB core as well. If we have an improved LB core and secondary going into next year, we are a playoff team.

There is no need to take a step back to look at the situation.

I don't see you winning 10 of the games I posted above.

Also, Champ Bailey isn't going to be a CB for the team he signs with.. hes going to play FS which is a cheaper position which means he doesn't care about money and just wants to win a Championship. Which isn't happening in Detroit anytime soon. Nnamdi won't sign with Detroit because theres better teams out there that want him and will make a play for him. Detroit is comparable to Oakland now, and Why would he go to detroit when he could get the same result by staying with Oakland? Give me a break rip.

See, outside of Detroit, people fail to see how fucking close were were from winning 8/9 games.
We aren't as bad as our record shows us, we failed to close out games. This is what we learned to do at the end of the season. For fucks sake, our franchise QB was injured like the entire season too. If he stays healthy, we are an even better team.
If Nndamdi is willing to wait a year for us to continue to solidify our roster (while still being a playoff team), I think he will be put in just as good as a situation as jumping right on to a contender (which is where we will be in a year or two).

No, because people outside of Detroit have a brain and aren't homers.

1. ) Matthew Stafford has to remain healthy, which knowing his track record.. won't happen.. this guy gets out of the bed and tears his ACL.

2.) Jahvid Best has to remain healthy, which he was even banged up last year down the stretch and he was banged up in college alot.

3.) After this year, you have to resign Calvin Johnson.. who lets be honest, just wants to win at this point.... and I could see him leaving Detroit.

.

Neither Nnamdi nor Champ is going to Detroit bro, Detroit will maybe be a 8 win team next year, no way in hell do they win 10 of those with having to face the Packers twice, Vikings twice, and Bears twice. Along with having to face the Chiefs, Chargers, Falcons, Raiders, Cowboys... its not happening.. take off the Honolulu Blue glasses.

Lol, or cause Lions fans are the only fans who watch Lions games. And are the only people who know the team well enough to say things like that. Don't have brains, get the fuck out of here with that shit.

Duh he has to stay healthy, I don't think we are a playoff team if Stafford isn't healthy. I think I've said that multiple times in the past as well..

Best had nagging turf toe injuries all season. He will be fine. Dude shouldn't even of been playing in most of our games, but did anyways.

Calvin ain't leaving. He is loyal. Dude has been quiet his whole career, says he wants to win, we win every game after he says that. He will be fine.

We beat the Packers, Vikings, and Bears (yes we beat the Bears) last year lol. It's not the fact of who we are playing, it's the fact we finally have somewhat of a winning culture in Detroit. If we get the necessary players in, we are going to be a 10 win team. It's not fucking mind blowing news lol. Teams make turnarounds, and the Lions are finally doing it.
