The Yankees will re-sign Mariano Rivera to a two-year, $30MM deal by tomorrow night, according to Christian Red of the New York Daily News. Rivera recently received a three-year offer worth more money from a rival team, but wanted to stay in pinstripes, even if it meant accepting a deal for fewer guaranteed years and less money. Agent Fernando Cuza confirmed that interested teams other than the Yankees have called about Rivera.

Any god is infallible...I seem to recall this particular "god" making a few mistakes in 2004 lol

Seriously though, no surprise here. Can't really see him anywhere else.

1.80 ERA begs to differ.

And of course every closer comes up short at times, but considering 04 was the only year he ever blew a save in his post-season career, pretty safe to say the guy is one of the greatest pitchers of all-time.

I'd be surprised if he got anything less than 100% of the vote to get into the Hall of Fame.

Yep 33 saves is amazing.

Clearly he is not what he used to be, what can you expect of a guy who is 40+.

Using saves to measure a closer is like using wins to measure a starter, completely irrelevant.

So what you are saying is Riveria is the best closer in the MLB currently?

How about guys like Wilson, Bell, Soriano, and Feliz?

What I am saying is he is out of his prime, but you think he is still in it.

I don't know how he's not in his prime. A lot of his prime years were worse than this one and his last three years have been some of his better seasons, which includes his second best season of his career. Nobody could hit his cutter five years ago, and nobody can hit it now despite a clear loss of velocity.

How could a 41 year old be in his prime. Players who are in their primes are usually in their twenties and early thirties. Not forties lol.

*A clear loss of velocity is key. That is clear he has gone downhill.

A 41 year old can be in his prime because he hasn't seen any decline in production, but I wouldn't expect you to understand how these things work as you've continuously put your lack of baseball knowledge on display.

Loss in velocity doesn't mean a pitcher is going down-hill if the production is still there. He doesn't and never has relied on speed, he's relied on a change of location and a change in how much he moves his cutter to be successful.

LMFAO alright buddy. I lack baseball knowledge??? You were the one who said you would sign Rivera to a 5 year deal worth 75 million. So shut the <Censored> up homer. At least I find flaws in my team, where as you think your team is perfect.

I can tell you right now our team is not perfect. Rotation needs work outside of our best two pitchers (CC and Hughes, Pettitte will count if he comes back), the bullpen is far from spectacular before Mo, defensive liabilities behind the plate, Granderson's hitting (although I firmly believe he can be good next year considering his strong showing in September after tweaks were made by Kevin Long.

And yes, I wouldn't mind if we signed him for 5 years considering everything I've just said about how he pitches. He doesn't rely on velocity which is the only thing that has been declining.

Yet he's still performing just as good, if not better, than he was in his prime and is performing just as good if not better than any closer in their prime right now.

No point on arguing anymore with Elite. This thread is just getting retarded.

My finals thoughts: Great signing, even if he isn't in his prime anymore. For sure Hall of Famer.

Its just a debate. No need to really close it. It's not like he was breaking any rules or anything.
