The Blazers have fired Tom Penn.

Penn's dismissal comes nearly 10 months after Penn was promoted to vice president of basketball operations.

It is unknown why Penn was fired, but it is believed to have come from owner Paul Allen and not Kevin Pritchard.

Penn was pursued heavily last year for the general manager position with the Minnesota Timberwolves, but turned down the job following his promotion from the Blazers.

His expertise with league rules and the salary cap allowed the Blazers to gain a trade exception in the 2007 NBA draft, which allowed them to make a trade with Phoenix for the rights to Rudy Fernandez.

Around the league he is widely regarded as a salary cap expert.

Update: Citing sources, Wendell Maxey reports that Penn is believed to have been in talks for the Clippers job.

According to a source that spoke with Columbian, there had been rumblings in recent weeks within the organization that Penn's job was at stake. The primary reason was that Penn had a tendency to rub many of those he worked with the wrong way, the source said, and was seen as being a "ladder climber."

Western Conference executives told the Oregonian that Vulcan headquarters (Paul Allen's company) was livid in late summer after they realized Tom Penn played them in getting a raise and promotion out of the phantom Minnesota offer.

"There's real resentment at Vulcan headquarters at that whole deal."

The source isn't buying the idea that something new happened on Tuesday that caused Penn's firing, rather, that the Vulcans decided long ago they were going to blow up Penn the first time they had cause.

"I'm not guessing on this, there's no speculation here, the resentment over the Minnesota thing is real," source said. "The Vulcans can be vindictive bitch's."

And I will gladly accept your bet TYO.
Im gonna need those 50 posts...We handled business like I knew we would Jrue beasted as I expected with 19/7/7.

Rondo hit all those 3s in the horse competition, might be able to make them in a 3PT contest.

And neither do I.

And speaking of Evans, definitely want to see the Kings get Turner so he can Evans can wreck havoc on the West :p

Wilbon and Mateen Cleeves picked OSU, but they're Big Ten guys.

Would be funny if he went to Minnesota, another #21. He would be cool in Utah with Deron.

Georgia Tech has no guards, probably won't make it out of round 1.
